Hill House by Andrew Maynard Architects
A stunning family home extension located near Melbourne, Australia, designed by Andrew Maynard Architects. The new structure was built in the backyard and faces the original house in order to maximize solar access, which tends to be indomitable in the area due to the constraints of thin allotments. The architect created an artificial hill on which sits a cantilevered box which acts as a solar eave. The family no longer uses the front door but rather enters via the side lane, the kitchen has become the nerve center of the house, and the old house is now the kids house. We like!
